How to Create an Engaging LinkedIn Video

Last week, I told you I was quitting my job at Leadfeeder to pursue my dream of starting my own digital agency, Hey Digital.
One of the things I’ve been experimenting over the last year but I’ve also done extensively over the last few weeks is pushing my personal brand through LinkedIn Video.
And let me tell you what, I’ve had some incredible success since we last spoke, specifically on LinkedIn and using LinkedIn video.
That’s why today, I’ll show you the amazing world of LinkedIn videos and personal branding on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is More than a Boring Platform
If you’ve been following me –you’d better start now– you know I’m a passionate LinkedIn user and an advocate for LinkedIn as a platform. This channel has generated me clients, made me some good friends, and without it I wouldn’t have made anywhere near the same amount of money or the amazing connections I’ve made over the last few years.
How To Create Engaging LinkedIn Updates
Over the last few years, I’ve been publishing more and more content on LinkedIn. Often helpful tips or articles but more recently, I’ve experimented with a different type of content.
Instead of heavy paragraphs, I’ve started to use one-line sentences and spaces between them and it’s given me crazy reach. As a result, I’ve grown my network really quickly.

It’s easy to read, it’s actionable, and it’s short enough not to take too much of your connection’s precious time.
The best thing is that if they want more, they can go to your website.
LinkedIn Video 101
Another thing I’ve noticed is really hot right now is LinkedIn video creators. Here's why:
It’s Really New
The platform has 500 million users. (I might be wrong on the number, feel free to correct me)
The thing about LinkedIn is that only 1% of these people are actively creating content.
Off that 1%, only 1% are creating videos.
As you can see, it’s still pretty new.
It’s An Authentic Way To Reach Your Network
I realized how strong videos are a couple of weeks ago when I announced I was leaving my job. I was super honest, and it was me just talking to the camera. I made it super authentic, and the response was HUGE.
To be honest with you, I had never put a lot of thought into video. I would drop the occasional video every 3 or 4 weeks, but I focused mainly on text posts.
Today, the post has around 150,000 views, 2,000 likes, and over 300 comments. All without spending a single penny on advertising.
More importantly, that video has booked me 7 sales meetings with qualified leads as well as a lot of people reaching out to me.
All as the result of this 2-minute video post.
The Keys to a Successful LinkedIn Video
After getting that amazing response, I was thinking “how can I share with you the success of this video?”
Luckily, I found a way to analyze the success and turn it into something you could see.
My video was really authentic. I spoke my mind and told everybody the honest truth. I shared my dream and the reasons I was doing it.
Also, I made myself vulnerable, and that made it real. There were no fake emotions there, and that’s something that separates good videos from the bad ones.
Subtitles are crucial. Many people on LinkedIn are on their mobile phones or in the office, and they’re not going to play video out loud in the office. So, adding subs is really important.
There are many ways to do it, but I’d recommend you find a person on Upwork to do it cost-effectively.
Grab People’s Attention
If you take a look at the video, you’ll see that I do a silly dance in the first two seconds. I like dancing, but that was mainly to capture people’s attention.
People are going through their newsfeed, and you need something interesting to capture their attention. There are many ways to do it, and they’re all good. Try one that suits your personal brand.
Another thing is that since you cannot pick your video’s thumbnail like other platforms, what people see is the very first thing you have in your video. To make the video really enticing, I added a still image using Canva, the design tool and put that in front of the video to create a thumbnail that attracted people’s clicks.
Write Great Copy
You might have a great video, but since people are in the office or see you muted, you need great copy below explaining what is the video all about.
Use the same tools you used in your video but apply them to your copy.

Throughout my research, I found that LinkedIn algorithm seems to favor consistency. When I posted a video every month, I didn’t get much engagement. But now that I’m posting every 2 o 3 days, engagement has skyrocketed.
If you tie consistency with all the things I mentioned, you’ll see success on LinkedIn videos.

Ever since I’ve started this journey as a business owner, I decided to document it. I’ve never grown a business before, and all my experience is in social media and sales; that’s why I decided to share my story and show what I’m going through.
